SHJS students are willing to go the extra mile - and proved it by rising early on a cold Saturday morning to get to incarnation School for the first Manhattan Regional Mathematics Competition. Mostly working together as two teams - the 5th/6th grade team and the 7th/8th grade team - but sometimes working individually, our students sharpened their pencils, grabbed their erasers and rules, and set about enjoying the morning with other students who also enjoy the fun of tackling challenging math problems.
Under the direction of SHJS Math teacher, Mr. Damian Wilhelm, and with the encouragement of SHJS Principal, Ms. Kelly Burke, students worked throughout the morning on Engineering challenges, Computational Challenges, and the like, ending with snacks for all and parents attending the Awards Ceremony.
We look forward to returning to the competiton next year, earning even higher awards, and having a good time going head-to-head with our Catholic Schools mathematicians.
